For whatever reason I forgot that I had my neutral density filter in my bag when I was shooting along the Baptism River in northern Minnesota last weekend. It would have been nice to use, as it was a bright morning. Still, I was able to use a pretty broad range of shutter speeds.

The water was really rushing through here, so even at a 50th of a second — a speed that can be captured with a well-braced hand-held camera — there is a decent sense of motion. I would have liked to go a little slower, but I don’t think I would have had to go too much slower to get a completely smooth flow.
